Women of Color owned businesses
We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.
Businesses owned by women of color are growing at six times the rate of all U.S. firms, according to the National Women's Business Council, a Washington, D.C. - based federal body. These firms represent 21 percent of all privately held, majority-owned firms in the United States, and between 1997 and 2004 they boosted their employment by 50 percent and sales by 44 percent.
Many women of color are drawn to entrepreneurship because it provides flexibility and an opportunity to spend more time with family. Others see it has an attractive alternative because of the opportunity to be your own boss, or to overcome racial barriers.
